A Horse Named Winx, the long-awaited movie by Australian documentary film maker Janine Hosking, will be released in cinemas on Thursday 5th September 2024. The Sunshine Coast Turf Club (SCTC) home of the Winx Guineas race is thrilled to announce an exclusive SCTC members giveaway of up to 40 double passes to the movie premiere at Event Cinemas Kawana on Tuesday 27th August 2024.
ABOUT THE MOVIE
A Horse Named Winx tells the inspirational story of one of our greatest athletes and triumphs of the legendary racehorse Winx, who captured the hearts of racing fans worldwide with her incredible winning streak. At the height of her fame, Winx became known as the “people’s horse”—an Australian icon who transcended her sport—joining the realms of fellow legends like Cathy Freeman and Sir Donald Bradman.
2015 saw the Chris Waller-trained Winx outclass the opposition in a last-to-first place win at the Sunshine Coast Guineas. Winx had all 16 rivals in front of her when turning for home, but the Larry Cassidy-ridden Winx not only swept home to win but put a near two-length margin on her rivals. During her reign, huge crowds descended on racetracks across Australia to witness the Phar Lap of the modern era pull off the impossible—33 straight wins—a feat unlikely to ever be repeated.
But away from the cameras, coping with the enormous pressure of maintaining the winning streak was testing Team Winx to the limit. A Horse Named Winx goes behind the sports headlines and spectacular victories to reveal the unforgettable spirit of a champion, who away from the racetrack faced her biggest battle and once again refused to be beaten. Although the world’s greatest racehorse retired in 2019, she’s still breaking records. Winx’s only foal sold this year at auction for a world record $10 million dollars. Winx’s final race was watched by millions worldwide.
